Wildflower of the Month - July

Pennyroyal aka Pagoda Mint (Mentha pulegium) Mint family Height 12” to 24” and the flower tier is 1 ½” wide The beautiful Pennyroyal has tiers of lavender-blue flowers and is common in our parks during the month of July and into August. Rosilla (Helenium puberbulum) Aster family Plant height 3’ to 4’ and the flower is 1 1/2” wide The interesting Rosillla flower sways on long stems and has ball shaped flowers with a yellow skirt. I have found Rosilla in wet, rocky areas in the shade of mixed woodlands. Rosilla certainly isn’t common and I have found it in just one of our state parks so I’m going to give you a hint.
