Pennyroyal aka Pagoda Mint

(Mentha pulegium) Mint family

Height 12” to 24”  and the flower tier is 1 ½”  wide

The beautiful Pennyroyal has tiers of lavender-blue flowers and is common in our parks during the month of July and into August.

You can find this beauty in grassy, generally moist areas, basking in the sun.

Can you find this wildflower?

?

Rosilla

(Helenium puberbulum) Aster family

Plant height 3’ to 4’ and the flower is 1 1/2” wide

The interesting Rosillla flower sways on long stems and has ball shaped flowers with a yellow skirt.

I have found Rosilla in wet, rocky areas in the shade of mixed woodlands.

Rosilla certainly isn’t common and I have found it in just one of our state parks so I’m going to give you a hint. Look for Rosilla in Sugarloaf State Park. Good luck and have fun!
